Platform #3: Economic Growth of the Black Family
-ADOPT A FAMILY
This has been an ongoing ESP Economic Growth of the Black Family Program. We have adopted two families, consisting of two mothers, 1 male and 3 elementary school aged children. Academic tutoring sessions are provided free of charge, through the teachers in the chapter and are held with the children on an "as needed" basis. The mothers have paired with various professionals who assisted and empowered them through individual counseling sessions including the following topics: VA Benefits and Guidelines, medical and mental health services, psychological counseling, financial counseling, higher education options, employment counseling, exercise and sports, appropriate attire, and how to maintain a healthy living environment. Food baskets were prepared for Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas along with individual Christmas gifts for the children in the families.
-BEAUTILLION
In an effort to prepare for our ESP Signature Beautillion Gala, we are conducting a series of workshops for the African American teenagers participating in the program. Workshops begin in September. Topics and resources will be provided to the young men by African American males and other professional in various areas covering: preparing for and getting accepted to college, financial aid, effectively dealing with peer pressure, achieving and maintaining financial stability, entrepreneurship, community service and the importance of personal life-time mentor. This is an ESP Black Family Program which is geared towards saving the African American male. Substantial scholarships will be awarded.
